A facial is more than just a few cucumbers on your eyes and some moisturizing cream on your face. A good facial will include a mask that deeply cleans pores you can’t see with the naked eye. A facial will include moisturizers, toners and a facial massage that will leave your skin looking younger and healthier and you with improved self-esteem.

facialsWhy you need regular facials?

Your face is the one area of your body that is almost always exposed to the outside elements including wind, sun, and cold. In order to keep your face looking young and fresh, you need to take care of your face.

You exercise often, you eat right and you get frequent haircuts, so why wouldn’t you get a facial? As with most other beauty and health matters, facials help prevent and treat common problems. Seasonal changes also affect your face. In the fall when we turn on the heat for the first time, the inside heat can dehydrate your skin and a facial can correct that lack of moisture. With the arrival of spring and the weather warming up, our skin can become oiler and create breakouts. Facials can help with these and many other skin ailments.

Regular facials can also help your anti aging products work better. Regular facials help to relax the muscles and tone your face helping the anti aging products you use to absorb into the skin more effectively. Who doesn’t want to look younger?

What is a High Frequency Facial?

The high frequency facial is used by skin care professionals to help treat and prevent stubborn acne, shrink enlarged pores, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, decongest puffy eyes, fade dark eye circles and even rejuvenate the condition of the scalp and nourish hair follicles for healthier hair growth.

Considered a timeless and essential skin rejuvenating treatment in the skin care industry, high frequency stimulates cell renewal and assists with improved skin care product penetration and absorption by gently warming the tissues of the skin.

The safe and gentle oscillating and oxygenating power of high frequency electrical current has been shown to enhance blood circulation, increase collagen and elastin production, eliminate toxins and acne-causing bacteria, encourage lymphatic drainage, exfoliate dead skin cells and improve skin care product absorption. The primary action of high frequency current is thermal (heat producing) and is characterized by a high rate of oscillation. Due to its rapid rate of oscillation, high frequency does not cause muscular contractions – instead, it works on the principle of skin toning.

Take good care of your skin with a professional facial.

At Merle Norman we offer a variety of facials:

Essential Facial (includes the High Frequency Facial)

This unique and effective personalized facial includes professional peel, via enzymes, oxygenations, manual extractions, facial massage and treatment mask.

European Facial (includes the High Frequency Facial)

The European facial begins with cleansing to remove makeup and impurities.  This is followed by an exfoliation process that removes dead skin cells and generates skin cell turnover.  Next, the pores are deeply cleaned with steam that is gently blown over the face.  The steam may also be applied to the skin with warm towels. An extraction process for a deeper cleaning is the next step and is optional (this can be uncomfortable to some and may leave some redness for a few hours).  Extractions are always followed with disinfection and then a soothing and antiseptic ampoule is generally applied.  To further the client’s relaxation, a face, neck, and shoulder massage comes next.  After the massage, a mask is applied appropriate to the skin type and condition, and finally, a moisturizer with sunblock is applied.  The European facial will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to greet the world with a healthy, glowing complexion.

Peel Facial

Peels can improve the skin’s appearance. In our treatment, a pumpkin peel mixture, the chemical is 30% fruit acid complex that is applied to the skin penetrating through the deeper layers of the skin, with the dead skin cells gently exfoliated.  The new skin is smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

Chemical peels can be used to reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth, treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging, improve the appearance of mild scars, and reduce age spots, freckles and dark patches.

How often should I get a facial?

Facials are beneficial at least once every thirty days. You do not want to do them too often because that can have an opposite effect on the skin, but once a month will keep your skin looking its best.

When you are at home, or in between facials it is very important to take care of your skin by washing your face and moisturizing daily. You also need to remember to use sun protection on your face either in your moisturizer, your foundation, or on your own. If you have oily skin make sure to find an oil free moisturizer and sunscreen. Of course, the old adage of drinking water helps to keep our skin looking great.

“Without adequate water intake, skin appears duller, and wrinkles and pores more prominent.” That may be because water plumps up the skin, causing wrinkles and pores to, more or less, get filled in. What’s more, a variety of structures in the skin that support collagen require water to work effectively, says Julius Few, M.D., director of The Few Institute and clinical professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Chicago. Bonus: When skin is hydrated, plump, and elastic, it’s less likely to crack and let in external particles that can cause irritations and blemishes.
